About This Reading Circle

We're reading Weapons of Math Destruction - How Big Data Increases Inequality and Threatens Democracy by Dr. Cathy O'Neil In this concise book, O'Neil offers an accessible perspective on how the decision making of machines is impacting our lives (and our students).

In particular, our group will focus on how the unregulated mathematical models behind algorithms are affecting education, our classrooms, and our technological world. From going to college to online advertising to civic life, we're increasingly interacting with machines. Join us as we tackle the many questions explored throughout this book so we can improve our instruction in a time of algorithms and big data.

Discussion & Reflection

Each week's webpage will contain discussion questions, extra resources, and a reflection form to collect thoughts as we explore this book together. You're encouraged to share any reflections using those forms. Alternatively, consider writing a reflection as a blog post on your own site. If there's significant interest, I'll put together a reflection section on this website like I've done for previous reading circles.
